Everest aluminum storefront systems for ground-floor commercial frontages
Storefront is the non-load-bearing aluminum framing used at grade: shop frontages, restaurant elevations, lobby fronts and one- or two-storey glazed walls, together with the entrance doors set into them. This page covers storefront as a supplied product system. Our existing storefront glass page covers the service side — assessment, replacement and installation work we perform directly.
Everest architectural aluminum systems for projects in Colorado, New York and California — product selection, estimating and project coordination through Gloria Glass, with Denver, New York City and Los Angeles as the principal target markets.
Who this is for
- Business owners fitting out a new retail, restaurant or clinic space
- Architects specifying a ground-floor frontage as part of a tenant improvement
- General contractors pricing a shell-and-core or tenant-improvement package
- Property owners upgrading a tired frontage across one or several units
Common project applications
- Retail and restaurant frontages at street level
- Office and medical lobby fronts and vestibules
- Tenant improvement packages within an existing shell
- Interior glazed partitions and demising walls using storefront framing
- Vestibules and entry sequences with paired doors
Storefront is a system, not just a wall of glass
A frontage is framing, glazing, doors, hardware, sealing and the details where all of those meet the building. The glass gets the attention and the hardware determines the experience: a poorly matched closer or an undersized hinge set turns a smart frontage into a daily irritation within a season of use.
The framing grid is the other decision that outlives the fit-out. Mullion spacing controls how the elevation reads, how large the individual lites are, and what happens when one of them has to be replaced later. Wider bays look better and cost more to reglaze.
How this page relates to our storefront glass service
Two distinct scopes exist and it is worth being precise about them. The storefront glass service page describes work Gloria Glass performs: assessing damaged or dated frontages, field verification, and planned replacement and installation. This page describes an aluminum storefront product system we are preparing to represent for Colorado projects, available with product selection, estimating and project coordination.
A project can use either route, or both — a system supplied here and installed under our service scope, or a system supplied to a contractor who is already engaged.
Interior applications
Storefront framing is frequently used indoors, for demising walls, conference rooms and office fronts, where its economy and modularity suit repeated bays. Interior applications remove weather from the equation but introduce acoustic and privacy questions instead, which are covered on our office partition pages.
What we need to prepare a budget
- Overall frontage dimensions and the intended framing grid
- Number and type of entrance doors, and whether any pairs are required
- Whether any door needs automatic operation or access control
- Glazing intent, including any safety, security or acoustic requirement
- Finish direction and whether interior and exterior differ
- Whether the existing framing stays or is removed
- Programme and any restriction on working hours in an occupied building
Supply only or coordinated installation
Storefront can be supplied only, for a contractor to install, or supplied with installation coordinated as part of the project scope. In an occupied building the coordination question is usually more about access, hours and temporary closure than about the glazing itself, and that is scoped explicitly.
Glazing, hardware and finish coordination
- Entrance hardware is selected as a set, with the closer sized to the leaf and the locking matched to how the tenant secures the space.
- Safety glazing locations are identified per lite in doors, sidelites and low glazing.
- Accessibility requirements applicable to the building and use are established with the design team.
- Perimeter sealing and the interface with the surrounding construction are agreed with the contractor.
- Finish is coordinated with any adjacent existing framing that will remain in place.
What must be verified before specification
Nothing on this page is a commitment about a specific project. Each item below is confirmed for the project in front of us before anything is specified or ordered.
- Field-verified opening dimensions rather than lease-plan dimensions
- Landlord or building-standard requirements affecting the frontage
- Any permit, jurisdictional or accessibility requirement applicable to the work
- Availability of the framing, doors, hardware and finish for the programme
- Temporary closure, security and after-hours access arrangements
- Whether existing framing is being retained, matched or fully replaced
Availability, final specifications, certification, engineering requirements, glazing, finish, delivery and project suitability are confirmed for each project.
