Wide openings are a detailing problem before they are a product problem

Los Angeles projects ask for the widest possible clear opening between inside and outside more often than anywhere else we work. The difficult part is everything around the opening: how the head is supported when a long span is removed from the wall, how the track is recessed, how water is kept out of a threshold that is meant to look like a continuous floor, and how the pocket is built when panels are meant to disappear.

These decisions belong to the design and construction team, and they have to happen early, because a recessed track and a drained flush sill are structural and waterproofing decisions made at slab stage. Once the concrete is placed, the range of realistic options narrows sharply.

Exposure, finish and coastal durability

Proximity to the coast changes the finish conversation. Salt-laden air is more aggressive on both the finish system and the exposed hardware than an inland environment, and the specification response is a matter of finish family, coating quality and hardware material rather than a single product answer.
