Who decides the height, loading and top rail
Required guard height, design loads and whether a continuous top rail is needed are determined by the project's design professional together with the authority having jurisdiction, from the code edition adopted locally. Gloria Glass designs the glass system to that determination; we do not set it, and we do not promise a top-rail-free guard before the determination is made.
Frameless, standoff, post or infill
Frameless base-shoe guards need a substrate that can take the shoe's loads and an edge that can accept it. Standoff-mounted panels want a vertical face — a slab edge or steel fascia. Posts and clamps suit timber decks and retrofits. Glass infill in an aluminum rail system is the most forgiving of an imperfect substrate. The choice follows the structure you have, not the picture you started with.
HOA and architectural review
Many of the newer Fort Collins subdivisions carry HOA design guidelines that constrain guard appearance, finish or glass tint. Securing that approval before glass is ordered avoids fabricating to a specification that is later rejected; approved drawings sometimes limit the system type as well.
