Everest 30 000 curtain wall systems for commercial elevations

Curtain wall is a glazed envelope carried on its own framing grid, hung from or spanning across the building's floor structure rather than sitting between slabs. It is the system of choice where an elevation reads as continuous glass from grade to parapet. The 30 000 family is the curtain-wall line within the Everest range.

Curtain wall, window wall and storefront are not interchangeable

The three systems can produce similar elevations and behave very differently. Curtain wall passes continuously in front of the floor slabs and is anchored back to the structure, so it can express a facade as an unbroken plane and must accommodate inter-storey movement. Window wall sits between the slabs, floor by floor, which simplifies erection and changes how movement, firestopping and water management are handled. Storefront is a non-load-bearing framing system generally used at grade for one or two storeys.

Stick-built versus unitised

Curtain wall is erected either as sticks — mullions and horizontals assembled and glazed in place — or as unitised panels fabricated in a shop and hung as complete units. Stick systems are more forgiving of field variation and typically suit lower buildings and smaller areas. Unitised systems move labour into a controlled environment, close the building faster and demand far tighter dimensional control from the structure.

Which one a project should use is decided by height, area, programme, site constraint and the erector's capability, not by preference. It is worth resolving before the envelope is priced, because the two produce very different numbers.

What we need to prepare a budget

  4. Vision and spandrel proportions, and the intended spandrel treatment
  5. Any operable vents, doors or louvres within the wall
  6. Structural framing type and how the anchors are expected to attach
  7. Programme: when the envelope needs to be closed in

Supply only or coordinated installation

Curtain wall is a system supply and coordination scope. Erection is normally performed by a glazing contractor with the equipment and crews for facade work, and we support that with product selection, estimating input and project coordination. Where a project needs a design-assist arrangement, the responsibilities of the design team, the engineer of record and the installer are defined at the outset.

Glazing, hardware and finish coordination

  • Anchorage into the primary structure is engineered for the specific building; it is not a catalogue selection.
  • Movement — thermal, live load, inter-storey drift — is accommodated by the system design and has to be reconciled with the structural engineer's numbers.
  • Glazing makeup, spandrel construction and any back-pan or insulation build-up are coordinated as one assembly.
  • Firestopping at the slab edge is a separate, coordinated scope that interfaces directly with the wall.
  • Finish, colour and any dual-finish requirement are confirmed with the design team before release.
